  16. I recently found your stories on another site and was so excited to see your note at the end of Lost and Found in the Reality Check Universe that more stories were on this site. I can't seem to find them though. I was really enjoying your stories and your characters. I hope you will repost them soon.

  17. HI Natasha,

I've been offline a bit of late (RL stuff) and thought the group was rather quiet. I'm sorry it is no more. From your comments here it sounds like RL has been taking all of your focus. I really enjoy reading your stories and the discussions that spring from them, but RL takes precedence :)

Sending you lots of positive thoughts and hugs!

    1. Thanks for the note. Unfortunately I had to pull the stories from the blog for real life reasons. Hopefully they will be back soon. I shut the group for more virtual life reasons. Groups do not manage themselves, and as I was getting little reward from the group, I decided to eliminate it. I always felt that I was swimming upstream in my own group, as there was always an underlying pressure for a type of story I choose not to write, but is a preference for many.

I am still writing, and a story such as "The Unbreakables" would never have shown itself on the group.

    2. I think most of us are grateful for anything you give us to read! You have so much talent and it is always a pleasure to read your stories. I love "The Unbreakables"!

    3. I'm so pleased that you're enjoying the Unbreakables. I'm enjoying writing something not fettered by the expectations of Reality Check. Thanks for your kind words.

    4. What you said regarding the Yahoo group makes sense. Sometimes, without realizing it, people can push (whether directly or indirectly) for what they want. And it can be hard to stand against that. Kudos to you for knowing what you want to write and staying true to that.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to reply to your stories as often as I wanted too. And I hope that I didn't ever give you the impression that I wanted to read a certain type of story. Because that's not the case. Yes, there were certain characters I liked touching base with...because I loved seeing their progression and development. You're so good at that. But what I love most about your stories is how they make me think. How they have me asking so many questions - about how I'm reacting to them...and why :) So thank you for sharing your stories.

I didn't know anything about The Unbreakables until I read your comment, but I had a quick look and I'm intrigued, so I will read the first chapter tomorrow (when my study isn't a fridge - oh the joys of winter and not having a laptop to take into the room with a fire :)

    5. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed seeing the characters grow and change. It is a part of the writing that I truly enjoyed and for which I sometimes took grief. People can become very possessive of characters that they enjoy, and as a writer that possessiveness can be both a joy and a frustration. It's wonderful to know that you've made a reader care that much about an imaginary being, but it's frustrating to be told that certain changes are forbidden, not because they break the continuity of the story, but because a reader only reads a certain type of story. I never read that in your replies, so no worries.

In general, I doubt, the group readers were intentionally trying to steer the stories, but the few that were can be overwhelming in an otherwise pool of silence. The silence itself often told its own story. I knew I could write a light story full of altruism and focused on caring and rescuing the submissive personality and people would respond. I could write a little more seriously with more questions about the use of power and the inherent dangers as well as pleasures of power and hit silence. There is a place for both sorts of stories, but my current taste tends to run to what is commonly called darker, even though I might argue that my earliest stories were the darkest as I often wonder if a rescue submissive really understands the choice of entering a power exchange, but that is a question for later and most definitely a question that tends to lead to heated feelings.

In conclusion, humans are all hard wired to respond to the cycle of punishment and rewards; we can't voluntarily turn off our response to operant conditioning, and unfortunately list groups often become a very strong vehicle for that conditioning.

  18. Thank you thank you thank you thank you! I am so happy that I could cry! Reality check is back! You are the best!!! I love the Unbreakables as well. Now there is so much to read! God, I'll probably stay up all night just enjoying the wonderful stories you have created :D Really, you have made me extremely happy and I adore yoy so much right now, you have no idea! I hope that doesn't make me sound like a crazy stalker or something... I wish I was able to give as much pleasure to people as you do.

    1. I'm glad I could make your day with RC verse. I hope to be able to keep it available for people. Hopefully the reason I took it down won't come back.

  19. Couldn't agree more with you, Anonymous who got here before me! I don't always leave comments when I read something here but that's because I'm afraid Natasha will get bored hearing praise all the time. It's so difficult trying to find ways to say "I loved it! You are the best!" in different ways. I should be able to do it, I am a teacher... I guess I just have to try harder. lol. Gawd, only old people trying to sound cool use 'lol' nowadays. You learn stuff like that when you teach teenagers. But yes, you made the sun shine for me as well. Thank you!

    1. I'm glad you enjoy RC verse. As far as commenting, we writers love to hear from you. I think readers are often unaware of how rarely anyone leaves a comment. It often feels like stories are being sent into a black hole.

  20. Hi I am a fan of your Reality check universe, who couldn't be right? But I love some of your other stories! The ones that I think are most compelling are your science fiction and fantasy. Something a out the writing style draws me in and keeps me checking back on daily basis to see if you've updated. There are a couple series that you'd post the beginning chapters if then eventually took down, so I was a little nervous to start From Afar but you finished it beautifully and I was sad to see end. I like when you explore the Dom/sub relationship in different settings but The Last Dance is easily proof that you're more than just a niche author. It was such a butter sweet peice. I just noticed that some of your other great writing wasn't being commented on as much as RC(which is a great verse) and that made me a little sad. Some authors really should and need to stay with in certain boundaries but you're really not one of them. As a personal preference I always go for the sci fi and the fantasy so I personally get a kick out of those even the ones taken down before they really got started. Anyway I hope you have a really good day and I hope some of your other work starts getting more attention because you have a gift.

    1. Thank you so much for commenting on The Last Dance. It was a piece that I am very proud of, even though it has few readers. I enjoy writing the sic-fi, but it is far more difficult than writing RC verse, and writing it into the usual void I find for such fiction is frustrating and even a touch depressing. In general I find the soft and almost simple pieces are far more rewarded by the readers. Even the more complex and darker parts of RC verse have less of an audience than the start of the verse. This may be a residual from the slant of my original fiction, but it is hard to often feel punished for more nuances and more complexity and less predictable happy ever after. Sometimes I am in the mood for all that I just described, but sometimes I am in the mood for something more. I have a low boredom quotient, and I like to challenge myself as a writer. Thanks again for enjoying some of my more varied offerings.

    2. I for one am a fan of the way you make your characters grow. Change is never easy whether we speak of real life or of literature. Just knowing how for example the Milton household changes from the beginning of the RC verse - it is a wonderful journey that makes me want to both laugh and cry. Some writers choose the easy path and just repeat the same story line over and over again and there is nothing wrong with that - sometimes I need to know how things end when I start to read something, I want to have a simple happy ending. And sometimes I need to feel more and enjoy the darker side of things. Please keep up the good work, you are a truly amazing writer!

    3. Thank you for the vote for variety. I'm pleased you enjoyed the ride that was RC verse from the bright and shiny fantasy of the early stories to the more complex and emotionally varied in the later stories. Like you I sometimes enjoy a bright and glittery fantasy, the Disney sort of thing. I don't write it often anymore because of the pushback I received when I started to explore other areas in my writing. It sort of warped my taste and my ability to write the fantasy of early RC verse. As the writer, I'm sure I also saw the fantasy differently than the readers as I knew how I was manipulating the stories and the characters to create it and how far I had separated from anything I would consider genuine emotions and feelings. I often think the divide is often similar to the divide between the cozy English mystery with tea and garden parties and the hard boiled mystery of police procedure, flawed heroes, and gritty violence. They can both be fun, but they inhabit different niches, and like the mystery story example they have different fans.

  22. Hi! I'm a big fan, love the unbreakables and the darker rc verse stuff. I feel bad that i haven't given you feedback but i figured you wouldn't need another "i loved it" comment. Others who write here seem to actually say something a little more intelligent than that. But if it keeps you going... I really love your stories!

  29. I read the short novel 'Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts' recently and it reminded me of 'From Afar' a bit! (In terms of the detailed alien culture/society and the mindset of the protagonist) I definitely suggest you try reading it if you haven't.
Also, do you plan to post more sci-fi/fantasy stories in the future?
